Cases coming to the general practitioner and falling under psychiatry belong to 4 categories : (1) Cases which the practitioner can treat himself, 50%. (2) Cases suffering from self limiting illness, 25%. They need supervision only. (3) Cases requiring expert advice and help, 10%. A specialist is necessary for their treatment. (4) Cases which are chronic and unteratable by any known method, 15%.
